Life Goals That Matter Will Inspire You Forever
Setting life goals gives you direction, motivation, and a sense of purpose. Whether you want to challenge yourself, learn something new, or improve your well-being, having a clear list of goals helps you stay focused on growth. When you create life goals that matter, they will inspire you forever.
But setting life goals that matter to you comes with a caveat… Be careful what you wish for because you may not like it when it comes true. I’m thinking back to 1977, when I was working part-time at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurant in Santa Monica, while completing my senior year of studies at UCLA. One Sunday afternoon, Jane Fonda came in with her two young children, Vanessa and Troy. The manager seated them in the back, in a room we used to call the torpe and motioned for me to take care of them.
I had been a fan of her work for years already, but managed to keep my composure. Jane kept her sunglasses on but was still looking directly at me. I took their order, pancakes and chocolate milk for the kids and coffee and and dry toast for her. The kids were impatient and wiggly and I offered to bring them some crayons and table mats so they could color. When she said “Thank you” to me it was the first words she uttered in my presence and I got goosebumps knowing it had come from her in a sincere way.
Less than an hour later they were ready to leave, and this time it was I who thanked her for coming to our restaurant. She smiled and nodded and I watched them make their way to their car. On that day I rethought my dream of becoming an actress someday, and instead went back to my original goal of becoming a writer. We must be careful what we wish for, because it may not manifest in the way we originally thought it would in our life experience.
