The Trip That Changed How I Thought About My Life She was a beautiful baby. When I opened the envelope containing the slightly blurry photo, taken at the hospital just moments after this little angel drew her first Earthly breath, I knew I'd do whatever I had to do to see her in person. But that would be easier said than done. It was December of 2000 and I was a classroom teacher. I also worked in real estate part-time to make ends meet, and had little in savings. But none of that mattered … [Read more...]
There’s a New Sheriff in Town
The email arrived while I was waiting for an important call and scrolling through my phone. The moment I saw it I knew exactly who it was from, what it was about, and who this new sheriff in town was - it was me. My next thought was one based in fear. I was fearful that the previous sheriff would be coming after me and ready to do who knew what to let me know she wasn't going down without a fight. The Wild West could be a dangerous place. As much as I'd like to tell you that the previous … [Read more...]
Podcasting: Finding Your Voice
My most recent podcast episode - #064 of Praestabilis: Excellence in Marketing - dropped yesterday. After I reviewed and then published it, I took a step back to answer my own question of "Why do you podcast?" and precept that podcasting - finding your voice - is crucial to success. I believe that podcasting, finding your voice and sharing your message, allows me to grow and learn and reinvent myself. Allow me to explain what I mean by this... I began podcasting back in 2010. I'd been … [Read more...]
Creating Empowering Beliefs to Change Your Life
Creating Empowering Beliefs By Letting Go of Limiting Beliefs For most of my life, I was the poster child for limiting beliefs. If you researched that term, there was a photo of me. The look on my face said it all... "I was never enough." Then I decided to take full responsibility for my life and everything began to slowly but steadily turn around for me. Let's take a look at some limiting beliefs that destroy your self-confidence. Holding onto limiting beliefs destroys your self-confidence … [Read more...]
First… Do No Harm
As you are reading this, I'm unconscious. Or, at least I was floating slightly above planet Earth earlier today, just an hour or so after scheduling this post so you could read it. Yet another surgery to redo work I had done years ago - 28 years, to be exact - after surviving cancer treatments. I've come to the point in my life where I accept this as yet another challenge to overcome. By finding the best doctors and hospitals for what I need, the stress is low and my expectations remain high. … [Read more...]
Writing… to Build Credibility and for Personal Expression
These days, I can't not write. But it wasn't always that way. I started out writing blog posts when I came online in 2006. The best way to boost content engagement and increase traffic to your site is by improving your writing skills. You have to know what your audience likes and find effective ways to present your content engagingly and interestingly. That is how great writers command attention and keep their readers absorbed. So, if you aim to achieve the same goal, read on! I will help … [Read more...]
Reinventing Myself… Version 5
Reinventing Myself Has Saved My Life on Many Occasions My life continues to surprise and amaze me. I've figured out that this is possible because I'm willing to reinvent myself regularly. My first reinvention occurred during the summer before I entered junior high. My most recent reinvention began sixteen months ago, at the beginning of the pandemic and when I decided to lose at least a hundred pounds with a plan that would work for me. Reinventing myself has become my way of transforming my … [Read more...]
The Cottage: Rising Up Like a Phoenix
All things considered, having a guest house in your backyard is a wonderful thing. Our new cottage received final approval this past week and my family and I are ecstatic! We've decided to refer to it as the cottage, as opposed to calling it a guest house or ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) or mother-in-law quarters or anything else. The cottage represents a full year of planning, pulling permits, building, and envisioning and next weekend we will christen it with a bottle of Bragg's apple cider … [Read more...]
On the Road Again… Seeking Clarity
On the Road Again... Seeking the Clarity I Left Behind This week finds me on the road again. I'm headed to northern California to spend time with some friends and family members. As I drive along the highway, alone with my thoughts and excited to arrive at my destination in a few hours, I ponder the big question in my mind... Is it too soon to think we've gone back to normal? Is the pandemic over? Will I and others continue to feel like we have only just begun to understand this new way of … [Read more...]
Building Your Village
Are You Building Your Village to Achieve Life Success? "It takes a village to raise a child" is an African proverb that means an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to grow in a safe and healthy environment. It also became a popular saying in American culture several decades back. My precept is that a village of people to help each of us to reach anything close to our full potential. My life is an example of how this works and I'm proud of what my village … [Read more...]
